Frequently Asked Questions

Who is LifeSpring designed for?

LifeSpring products are designed for any adult looking for a convenient, healthy and delicious alternative to typical grocery products. Because all of our products are low in calories, fat and cholesterol and rich in complex carbohydrates and key vitamins and minerals, they are especially suited for adults trying to manage a restricted diet due to heart concerns, diabetes or malnutrition. Caregivers and Care Recipients in particular benefit from LifeSpring.

How were the products created and how were they made?

LifeSpring was created to provide consumers aged 50+ with great tasting food products designed specifically for the unique dietary needs of this group. LifeSpring assembled a Science Advisory Board, consisting of world-renowned nutrition experts, physicians and dietitians, who set the nutrition guidelines for our products. Then, our talented chefs created a line of great tasting products using only the highest quality ingredients that meet those guidelines. Finally, all of our products are prepared, packaged and frozen in modern FDA-certified production facilities and then delivered directly to our consumers.

What makes Lifespring so wonderful?

  1. Convenience – with home delivery and Federal Express service, our customers can avoid the traffic and hassle of shopping at the grocery store.
  2. Higher Quality – we deliver directly to you and are able to use higher quality ingredients, offer more satisfying portion sizes and easy-to-open packaging.
  3. Customization and Service – we have trained Customer Service Representatives that help select foods that are right for you, to better satisfy your individual dietary needs.

Do I need to get my doctor's permission to eat this food?

If your doctor has recommended a particular diet for you, ask our Registered Dietitian to help you select the LifeSpring items that meet your doctor's diet recommendation. Or, if you prefer, we can send your physician information on our products and services. Be assured, every LifeSpring product meets or exceeds the guidelines set by the American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association and is appropriate for most people's needs.

Do I have to commit to eating LifeSpring foods exclusively?

Absolutely not! Our philosophy is that it is important to provide you with a flexible plan for incorporating LifeSpring products in with other healthy foods you like to eat. In fact our Registered Dietitians can work with you to develop a menu plan that incorporates LifeSpring products with your favorite homemade meals.

Should I still take my vitamins?

Because our products offer a balanced level of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats) and we fortify many of our products with key micronutrients (vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients), it is often unnecessary to take additional supplements when eating a complete diet of LifeSpring food products. However, check with your doctor to make sure you are taking the appropriate vitamins or call our helpful Registered Dietitians.

Does LifeSpring provide nutritional information on the products?

In accordance with FDA regulations, every LifeSpring product includes complete nutrition information on the package label. The LifeSpring catalog contains detailed nutrition information including diabetic exchanges and more. If you have specific questions about how our products may serve your particular nutritional needs, ask to speak to one of our Registered Dietitians.

How do I prepare the products?

All items are designed to be easy to prepare and go from the freezer to the table in ten minutes or less. All LifeSpring products are frozen and include microwave and conventional cooking instructions.

How long can I keep LifeSpring products in my freezer?

LifeSpring's freezing process locks in the nutrition, flavor, and aroma and will keep fresh in your freezer for up to six months. Please refer to Our Guarantee.

What if I'm not happy with my order?

We are sure that you will enjoy everything you order from LifeSpring. However, if for any reason, you are not completely satisfied with any of your products from LifeSpring, we will be happy to refund your money. Please refer to Our Guarantee.

I'm on a special diet. Can you recommend the best items for my needs?

You can request to speak with a LifeSpring Registered Dietitian, who will help you select the meals that best fit your dietary needs. For example, we have items that are specially formulated to be low in sodium. All of our meals exceed American Heart Association and American Dietetic guidelines on fat and cholesterol, as well. Simply call 1-800-798-5767 or email at info@homenutrition.com.

Do you have any other meals?

We are constantly designing and testing new meals, soups, desserts, and beverages to add to our line of delicious and nutritious foods. We will let you know as soon as they are available, and you will be able to choose from all of our products.

My neighbors want to get your food delivered to their home too. How can they sign up?

Have them call us at 1-800-798-5767 or have them visit our web site at www.homenutrition.com and we'd be happy to add them to our LifeSpring family of customers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I'm not home when the driver comes to deliver my food?

The driver will leave the food in a cooler by your front door. The coolers contain dry ice, and will keep the food frozen for up to 14 hours. We can also deliver to a neighbor – whichever is more convenient for you.

If I'm not comfortable with the driver leaving the products on my doorstep, what are my options?

We try our best to accommodate our customers with their schedules. If you would like the driver to place the cooler somewhere other than your front doorstep, please call the Customer Service Center at 1-800-798-5767 and a customer service representative will make a note in your delivery log for the driver.

What if I need to cancel a delivery, because I won't be in town?

Call our Customer Service Center at 1-800-798-5767 and they will hold your order until the date you specify. We ask that you contact us at least 5 business days prior to your next delivery in order to hold the order. We will not charge you for last-minute changes that result from a medical emergency.

Can I get delivery on a different day?

We deliver to each neighborhood one day per week. In the future, as we grow, we may add additional delivery days in your neighborhood, and we'll let you know as soon as that happens.

What if I move, will I still be able to receive the meals?

Yes, we deliver to Orange County, Los Angeles County, Riverside County and San Bernadino County for $14.95. So you can still enjoy your LifeSpring products wherever you move.

Can I change my order?

Yes, you can make any changes to your order if it is received 5 business days prior to the scheduled delivery.

How should I handle the dry ice?

Dry ice is used to keep the food frozen. Please handle the dry ice with care – do not touch or eat it. After removing the products from the cooler, dump the dry ice directly from the cooler into a garbage container.

What should I do with the cooler?

Please leave your cooler outside for your delivery driver to pick up. There will be a charge for coolers that are not returned.

How can I check the status of my delivery?

Call our Customer Service Line at 1-800-798-5767 or contact us by email at info@homenutrition.com.

Food and Nutrition

LifeSpring Home Nutrition focuses on the needs of the mature population, many of whom experience chronic diseases such as coronary artery disease and diabetes. The combination of extended life expectancy and the emerging baby boomers will see the US population aged 50+ swell by 45 million to 115 million in the next twenty years. Today, 85% of individuals over 65 experience one or more chronic diseases, many of which can be positively impacted by improved diet and nutrition.

Many caregivers have looked to LifeSpring to provide themselves and their families with the nutrition they need. With the increasing number of people who fall into the "Sandwich Generation" – those facing taking care of their parents as well as raising their own children – just making decisions of what their parents (or other care recipient) should eat shouldn't be that complicated.

The entire LifeSpring line of products and services can be your hassle-free solution to providing the best in nutrition to your loved ones. Lifespring is the appropriate choice for those who have a difficult time preparing the best food for their health needs, or who don't have the time to shop for all the ingredients they may need for a nutritious, healthy meal.

Top 5 Frequently Asked Question

I can't have salt. Your food has too much salt in it. I see 940 milligrams on the label!!

Our food is designed to meet the Step II requirements of the American Heart Association which limits sodium to 2400 milligrams per day. That means if you ate two LifeSpring meals per day, plus a normal low sodium breakfast (cereal, milk, toast, fruit, and fruit juice), plus any other foods such as salads with low sodium dressing, rolls, fruits, vegetables, etc., your sodium intake for the day would be well within the 2400 mg limit. Remember, these are meals, and therefore provide most of your calories. So when you look at the 940 milligrams of sodium, you need to think about the amount of calories that meal is providing you.

Keep in mind that salt is "sodium-chloride," and that the element that needs to be controlled is sodium. Sodium attracts water into the bloodstream. Extra water elevates pressure (just like turning a garden hose on full force) in salt-sensitive individuals, contributing to high blood pressure.

The average American consumes between 5,000 and 10,000 mg of sodium daily mostly from fast and convenience foods.

The doctor says I have sugar in my blood. Can I eat your foods?

We all have sugar in our blood—our bodies run on it. Glucose (sugar) is the primary form of fuel for the central nervous system (our brains are part of this), and for other tissues including muscles. Glucose in blood comes from digestion of carbohydrates in a meal. These carbohydrates can be in the form of complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, cereals, breads, pastas, potatoes and rice, as well as simple sugars such as honey, sucrose, and sweeteners in pies cakes and cookies. When you eat carbohydrates, they digest and head out to the bloodstream to be carried to cells that need them for fuel. When you have too much sugar in your blood, you have either insulin resistance, or diabetes. Human bodies are happiest at a level of glucose that is between 70 and 110 mg/dl. Diabetes is diagnosed when a person has a fasting blood sugar (no food 8 hours before the blood is taken) of 126 mg/dl.

Diabetes is a complex disease that involves the production of insulin from your pancreas. Insulin is the key that unlocks the door to the cell and lets the glucose (sugar) in. When insulin is either not being produced, or not doing its job when it is produced, excess glucose accumulates in your blood. The cells are starved amidst plenty! And, the excess glucose wreaks havoc on other parts of your body such as kidneys, nerve tissue, eyes, and your vascular system (the pipes that circulate your blood!)

LifeSpring meals are designed to meet the needs of diabetics. These meals are heart-healthy, low sodium, low cholesterol, and have the right balance of carbohydrates, proteins and fats to help control blood sugar levels. Depending on your needs, a meal plan can be constructed using LifeSpring meals. You may be counting carbohydrates, watching calories per meal, or just watching total caloric intake to lose weight. LifeSpring can help you with any of these choices of treatment.

I am on a complex diet. Can LifeSpring help?

LifeSpring has Registered Dietitians who can help you select those meals appropriate for you particular needs.

I am on a Renal diet. Can I eat LifeSpring meals?

Yes maybe. It depends on the Renal Diet. If you need to restrict potassium to between 2,000 and 3,000 milligrams, most LifeSpring meals can be worked into a meal plan for you. If you also need to control phosphorus, LifeSpring will work.

If you need to control protein, again most LifeSpring meals can be worked in. Ask the LifeSpring dietitian for help—letting her know the specifics of your diet order, or let her know the name of your Renal Dietitian so she can find out your particular needs and work up a meal plan. If you are on Peritoneal Dialysis, LifeSpring will help with a meal plan for you to give you the amount of protein you need to stay healthy.

It seems like I have so much fatigue nowadays. Can LifeSpring help me with that?

It depends on the reason for the fatigue. You need to check with your doctor. If the reason for fatigue is that you are not eating enough, getting enough protein, not getting enough of the nutrients that help to energize you, then LifeSpring can surely help. LifeSpring meals are nutritious, well balanced heart healthy and convenient meals that will provides you with a variety of nutrients that you need to give yourself the energy that gets you up and going!!
