Senior Management Team

Susan Davis Johnson, Chairman of the Board, Founder and Owner
Susan is the Chairman of the Board and the founder and owner of both LifeSpring Nutrition and Susan’s Healthy Gourmet. Both companies focus on attaining a healthy lifestyle through good diet and nutrition, a passion of Susan’s that embodies the mission and vision of both companies.

Born in Houston, Susan graduated from Hollins College in Virginia and lived in Dallas, Boston, and Houston before moving to San Diego in August of 1994. With her kids grown, she and husband John decided they loved Southern California and wanted to start a business and settle there permanently.

In Houston, Susan had participated in a program similar to Susan’s Healthy Gourmet for more than five years, first as a weight-loss customer, then to ensure continued healthy eating. When she moved to California, she was surprised to find that there was no comparable healthy meals-to-go business. Deciding to fill the niche, she founded Susan’s Healthy Gourmet in June 1995 and began food delivery service in January 1996. From its Irvine, Calif., headquarters, Susan’s Healthy Gourmet has since expanded to serve all of Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange counties.

Susan’s Healthy Gourmet and LifeSpring Nutrition meals are specifically made to promote good health. A long family history of cancer and heart disease has made Susan very aware of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Low in fat, sodium, and cholesterol and high in fiber, all meals meet the dietary guidelines set forth by the American Heart, American Cancer and American Dietetic associations.

Prior to moving to California, Susan spent five years in the Development and Alumni Office of the Kinkaid School, doubling unrestricted annual giving to more than $1 million annually. She also developed a model continuing education program, and as well as a glossy quarterly magazine.

An active volunteer, Susan has been involved with the American Cancer Society since the 1980’s. She chaired the first Cattle Baron’s Ball in Houston in 1989, co-chaired the Orange County 2001 & 2002 Cattle Barons Ball League Children’s Celebration, was the 2001-2002 chair of the California Gala Project Team and chaired the California Leadership Retreat for gala volunteers.

Susan is the president of the board of the Assessment Treatment Services Center, a local charity that provides counseling for troubled children and their families. She is past-president of the Orange County Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. She is also a member of the California Restaurant Association, and affiliated with a variety of additional local volunteer groups.

In 2000 Susan was named Business Owner of the Year by the Orange County chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners and in 2002, Susan’s Healthy Gourmet was named Small Business of the Year by Orange Coast College.

Susan finds reward in all aspects of the business. She takes pleasure in making a difference in her customer’s lives and enjoys talking with them and hearing their response to the food and service she’s providing. “My goal for Susan’s Healthy Gourmet is to provide great food to people who enjoy eating nutritious, low fat meals without the hard work involved with cooking. My goal for LifeSpring Nutrition is to continue that tradition by focusing on the dietary benefits of nutriceutical meals for the elderly, and also achieving the peace of mind such meals bring to not only those we are serving, but their spouses, children and grandchildren.”

John L. Johnson, President
John is the current President of LifeSpring Nutrition, overseeing the company’s operations since January of 2003. He brings to his role with LifeSpring over thirty-three years of operational and senior level management experience.

Since graduating from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia in 1969 with a BA in Economics, John has held numerous senior level executive posts with a diverse set of companies. For over fourteen years he helped grow Fisk Electric Company to a $100 million dollar a year company. During his tenure at Fisk, he held the post of staff vice president as well as president of its subsidiary, Fisk Electric International.

In 1984 John left Fisk Electric Company to form Iseotec Texas, a telephone systems company. He spent the next four years successfully growing the company, helping it reach over four million dollars in annual revenue and eventually selling it for a profit in 1988. Continuing his entrepreneurial ways, John founded another company soon after. The company was Teleprofits of Texas and focused on installing and servicing private pay telephones. Once again, John successfully grew the business, eventually selling the company for a profit in 1991.

After selling Teleprofits of Texas John accepted the role of president for MS Broadband in San Diego, a company that installs fiber optic cable for AT & T. After a successful tenure with MS Broadband, John decided it was time to form another company, this time it would be with his wife, Susan.

John and Susan formed Susan’s Healthy Gourmet in 1995. The first of its kind in Southern California, the company specializes in preparing calorie controlled gourmet meals and delivering them to customers throughout Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego. Serving as executive vice president since 1995, John has played a key role in helping Susan’s Healthy Gourmet become a recognized leader in its industry, continuing to see its overall revenue, profits and brand expand after nearly eight successful years in business.

In January of 2003, John and Susan ventured into the healthy frozen food industry and acquired LifeSpring Nutrition. John transitioned to LifeSpring Nutrition as its president immediately following the acquisition and is currently co-running the day-to-day operations of the company.

John is an active member of the Cattle Barons League, California Restaurant Association, Assessment Treatment Services Center and the American Cancer Society.
